2 Bedroom 2 Bath Gut Renovation (Landmark Building)
This project was commissioned by the owner. This 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment is situated in a landmark pre-war apartment building designed by renowned architect Rosario Candela. The project included a complete gut renovation. Architectural plans were minimal, as there was little structural work needed. Most of the design of the renovations were worked through with the owner with an eye toward a traditional decor in concert with the architectural design and history of the building.
Wallpaper was removed throughout and all walls & ceilings were skim coated. All baseboard, all window and door casings, as well as all doors were replaced with custom built doors and trim to match the original doors and trim (in stained and lacquered red oak). Floors were sanded and finished with a traditional paste & wax approach. Both the master and guest bathrooms were redesigned with a traditional decor based on white carrera marble and high-end fixtures from British manufacturer Barber Wilsons.
A great deal of the carpentry work was custom milled in our shop to better integrate with the shapes and lines already in the apartment design. A terra cotta based floor was installed in the kitchen which mimics the flooring in the lobby and throughout the hallways in the building.
